Information, Advice & Advocacy
“I have found it difficult at times to understand some of the paperwork and letters I receive. The support workers have helped to explain what the letters mean and link me with appropriate services to assist me when I am in need.”
- Drop-in Client, 2019.
Our Information, Advocacy & Advice services are delivered face-to-face at drop-ins and appointments, as well as over the phone.
Our team help individuals understand and access the support they are entitled to at each stage of their journey, spanning housing, health, education, legal advice and financial and practical support. We help people to understand their rights and navigate their asylum journey.
WERS works with people at all stages, from their arrival in the region through to the decision on their asylum claim, as they gain refugee status or become destitute with no access to state support. Our projects support individuals throughout this process.
We often work with people over a significant period of time to tackle the broad range of issues and challenges they face as refugees in the UK.
We work closely with a network of voluntary and statutory/ local government partners to ensure that the people we support engage with the appropriate services.
We also host drop-ins from third party agencies who offer free legal, welfare and financial advice in a familiar setting for clients. During Covid-19 these drop-ins are limited, and we are linking clients up via telephone with these agencies.
