Message from outgoing Chair of the Board of Trustees

With over two decades of dedicated service to WERS, Tessa Sayers has steered WERS through numerous triumphs and challenges, leaving an indelible mark on its growth and impact. As Tessa steps down from her role, we are embarking on an exciting recruitment process that invites you to be part of the next chapter in WERS's journey.

In her message, Tessa shares her insights, the values that have guided her, and the unique opportunity that awaits a new leader who will shape the future of WERS as the Chair of the Board of Trustees.

Tessa Sayers

“It has been my privilege to be involved with WERS for over 20 years as volunteer, trustee and Chair of Trustees. Over this time I’ve been hugely impressed by the commitment, expertise and hard work of the team of staff members and volunteers as well as the amazing qualities and resilience of the people we serve.

I am reluctantly standing down due to increasing caring responsibilities in the home and I would like to invite you to consider this tremendous opportunity to make a real difference through the inspiring work of this charity.

Much has changed since I first started with WERS but the urgent need for the work that it does among those seeking sanctuary in the North East continues and grows.

WERS is entering a phase of renewed strategic focus, led by its new CEO Peter Noble, informed by an inclusive consultation exercise.

This is an exciting time to join WERS as it reshapes its established programmes to better meet the needs of the people it works with, listening to their voices at each stage along the way.”

Tessa Sayers, outgoing Chair of the Board of Trustees
