How to Help
How can you help WERS?
WERS offers practical and emotional support to refugees and asylum seekers living in the West End of Newcastle upon Tyne.
An important part of our service is our hardship fund. The fund was originally set up to purchase items which otherwise clients could not afford – shoes, nappies, and dictionaries, for example. However, the fund has become the sole means of support for increasing numbers of clients. During the 2009-2010 financial year, £77,954 was given in direct support to destitute clients - an all-time high. 304 men and women were supported by the fund.
If you want to help, we would ask you to complete the accompanying forms.
- Gift Aid form (which allows us to benefit from an extra 20% on every donation made by a taxpayer).
- Standing Order Information sheet (for WERS giving details of your standing order).
- Banking Standing order (this form you complete and then take to your bank to set up the standing order).
The first two forms should be returned to the WERS office.
WERS currently supports destitute clients with £15 a week. A small donation can make a huge difference!
